The Reading Centre
At Talmud Torah London, the Reading Centre was created to support children who are struggling with reading fluency, comprehension, concentration, and classroom participation.
Many children arrive feeling frustrated, lacking confidence, and unable to properly engage with davening, Chumash, or classroom learning. Our programme is designed to rebuild those skills step by step through a highly structured system that combines technology, repetition, personal guidance, and measurable progress.
Using a specialised computer-based learning programme together with one-to-one tutor support, children develop the core reading habits that many struggling readers are missing.
We believe every child deserves the tools and support to succeed. That’s why our programmes combine personalised learning, proven methodologies, and engaging technology to create real, lasting impact.
Children are trained to read words fully and correctly — not guess based on the beginning of the word. The programme strengthens careful reading habits and reduces common reading mistakes.
Children learn to understand what they are reading, identify sentences that do not make sense, and actively think while reading rather than simply repeating words.
Each child works alongside a dedicated tutor who provides encouragement, correction, structure, and personal attention throughout every session.
The programme uses engaging computer-based exercises that keep children focused while allowing lessons to progress in a clear and consistent format.
Skills are reinforced continuously through guided repetition, helping children build long-term reading fluency and confidence.
Progress is carefully monitored to identify strengths, weaknesses, and improvement areas, allowing tutors to adapt support for each child individually.
For many children, the biggest transformation is emotional as well as academic.
Children who once avoided reading often begin participating willingly, answering questions, and engaging positively in class. Improved reading ability leads to greater independence, stronger self-confidence, and a more positive relationship with learning.
As children progress through the programme, many begin:
No two children struggle with reading in exactly the same way.
Some children rush words.
Some lose concentration quickly.
Some guess words without fully reading them.
Others lack confidence after years of frustration.
Our tutors work individually with each child to identify these challenges and help strengthen the specific skills they need most.
Strong reading skills influence every area of a child’s education.
By helping children develop fluency, comprehension, concentration, and confidence at an early stage, the Reading Centre provides children with tools that support them throughout their learning journey — both inside and outside the classroom.
